Sister Maria Rosa Leggol
November 21, 1926 — October 16, 2020
We mourn the death on October 16, 2020, of our beloved Sister Maria Rosa Leggol, 93-year-old founder of the Sociedad Amigos de los Ninos (SAN). Known as the "Mother Teresa" of Central America, her legacy lives on in tens of thousands of Honduran lives saved by her social, education, and job-training projects.
She also changed the lives and hearts of all the North American mission travelers whom she invited to share in her work of love and redemption and to stand in solidarity with the poor. We look forward to following her cause for sainthood, announced at her funeral by Cardinal Óscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, and will carry on our work in Honduras as we carry her wise words in our hearts:
“There is always room for one more child.”
We celebrated Sister’s life in a Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Indianapolis on October 20, celebrated by Father Jeff Godecker, who led the first mission trip to Honduras for the group that founded FHC Indiana. Here is the link to watch: https://fb.watch/1OtXHAaDrC/
